Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols
Prepare and clean metal surfaces before welding (grinding, degreasing, etc.)
Measure and cut materials to specifications using hand or power tools
Set up welding equipment (gas tanks, torches, wire feeders, etc.)
Inspect finished welds for structural integrity and appearance
Follow safety procedures (PPE use, fire prevention, ventilation, etc.)
Maintain tools and welding machines in working condition
Keep work area clean and organized
High school diploma or GED (minimum requirement)
Completion of a welding training program from a vocational school, community college, or trade school is strongly preferred
Ability to operate a MIG welder and wire-feed machine
Knowledge of shielding gases (e.g., argon, CO?)
Proficiency in welding thicker materials (e.g., steel, aluminum)
Familiarity with different transfer modes (spray, globular, short-circuit)
Precision welding using a tungsten electrode and filler rod
Ability to weld thin metals and exotic alloys (e.g., stainless steel, titanium, aluminum)
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Strong understanding of heat control and arc stability
Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols
Use of tools like grinders, cutters, and measuring devices
