Structural Welder

Pay: $21-$26/hour

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Mon-Fri | 6:00am - 4:30pm (Some Saturdays as needed)

The Houston branch of Openwork has partnered with a local manufacturing company to add a Welder to their growing team. This is a great long-term opportunity for someone with welding experience seeking stability and a long-term career.

What You'll Be Doing: 

  • Layout & Fitting: Read and interpret structural blueprints, welding symbols, and shop drawings to lay out, fit up, and tack structural assemblies.

  • Welding: Weld structural carbon steel components using MIG (GMAW) and Flux Core (FCAW) processes in accordance with AWS D1.1 specifications.

  • Cutting & Material Prep: Perform cutting, burning, beveling, and grinding using flame-cutting torches, plasma cutters, carbon arc gougers, and pipe bevelers.

  • Equipment & Rigging: Operate shop equipment such as band saws, drills, grinders, jib cranes, and overhead cranes for material positioning and rigging.

  • Quality & Measurement: Measure parts accurately to 1/16-inch tolerances and visually inspect fit-up and welds to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Shop Support: Follow OSHA and shop safety guidelines, assist with workflow/process improvements, and occasionally act as backup lead or mentor less experienced fabricators.

What We're Looking For: 

  • 3+ years of Welding experience (Mig & Fluxcore)

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Knowledge of shop safety in a manufacturing environment 
  • Knowledge of AWS D1 Standards 
  • Ability to pass a 3G open root test on 1" plate
