The Spring Up technician prepares wooden sofa, chair, and section frames by attaching and tying down coil springs, zigzag (no-sag) springs, and webbing. This structural role directly impacts the durability, pitch, and comfort of high-end upholstered seating.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spring Installation: Position coil springs, drop-in spring units, or no-sag (S-curve) spring clips onto raw wooden frames.

  • Hand Tying (8-Way Hand Tie): Measure, thread, and hand-tie spring twine across coil units using traditional 8-way hand tie techniques to ensure proper seat tension, level height, and support.

  • Foundation Prepping: Secure edge wire around frame perimeters, attach webbing/burlap layers, cover springs with flex-netting/FLW, and apply edge rope or edge roll using pneumatic staple guns.

  • Quality & Ticket Verification: Read work orders/production tickets for specific seating firmness and style requirements, inspecting frames for structural defects before working.

  • Material Handling: Retrieve wood frames from stock, place them onto spring-up bucks or lifts, and push completed units to the next station in the production line.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Prior experience in residential furniture manufacturing, specifically in spring-up, web-up, or 8-way hand tie assembly, is strongly preferred.

  • Tool Proficiency: Skill with pneumatic staple guns, wire cutters, hammer, etc.

  • Physical Demands: Heavy manual labor requiring strong hand-grip strength, constant standing, stooping, bending, and the ability to lift/maneuver furniture frames weighing 50+ lbs.
