Openwork is seeking a skilled and detail oriented Metal Fabrication Sales Estimator to join our client’s team in the Pineville area. This is a temp to hire, administrative focused role supporting quoting, customer communication, and cost analysis for precision metal fabrication projects. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, experience interpreting blueprints, and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and internal teams.

Responsibilities:

Estimating & Technical Analysis

  • Review incoming blueprints, drawings, and customer specifications to determine project scope

  • Identify the most cost effective manufacturing methods, including cutting, forming, stamping, and welding

  • Calculate material usage, labor hours, tooling needs, and production costs

  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates and quotations

  • Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and internal tools to generate pricing

  • Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards and customer requirements

Customer Service & Sales Support

  • Communicate with customers to clarify project details, answer questions, and provide updates

  • Present estimates clearly and professionally to customers and internal stakeholders

  • Track orders, follow up on quotes, and respond to customer inquiries

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and manufacturing rep groups

  • Provide recommendations to improve production efficiency and customer satisfaction

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with plant personnel, engineering, and management to gather information needed for accurate quoting

  • Coordinate with sales and production teams to ensure alignment on job status and customer expectations

  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to estimating, workflow, and communication

  • Assist with general office tasks and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or related coursework preferred

  • Experience in metal fabrication, machining, automotive, or mechanical environments strongly preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills

  • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and computer based tools

  • Prior experience in sales support, estimating, or customer service is a plus

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to explain complex information in a clear, customer friendly manner

  • Problem solving mindset with the ability to identify cost effective solutions

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Negotiation skills and confidence interacting with customers and suppliers

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing drawings and preparing estimates

  • Occasional movement through production areas to gather information or review parts

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally

  • Visual requirements include close vision and the ability to read detailed technical documents

Work Environment:

  • Professional office environment with regular interaction with production and engineering teams

  • Exposure to manufacturing areas with moderate noise levels when gathering information

  • Fast paced, deadline driven environment requiring accuracy and strong time management

Note: This job description provides a general overview of the role. Duties may change based on operational needs. This is a temp to hire position with pay ranging from $28–$30/hr (equivalent to ~$60,000 annually, negotiable based on experience).
