Industrial Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our engineering and maintenance team at our Pasadena facility. Operating within a highly safety-critical environment, this role reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
You will play a vital part in executing mechanical maintenance activities across the plant site, ensuring all machinery, processing equipment, and infrastructure remain in optimal operating condition. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Machinery Maintenance: Repair, install, adjust, or replace associated machinery, processing components, and heavy plant equipment.
- Core Mechanical Systems: Demonstrate and apply a foundational understanding of bearings, conveyors, rotary valves, lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
- Preventative Maintenance: Actively assist in the plant’s preventative maintenance (PM) programs and log completed work orders accurately to build maintenance equipment history.
- Facility Operations: Perform routine pipefitting, plant plumbing, and minor pump repairs as required to prevent operational downtime.
- Team Coordination: Partner closely with the PM crew and shift operations to execute scheduled repairs efficiently and minimize workflow impact.
- Safety & Housekeeping: Assist in moving parts/equipment safely throughout the complex. Maintain all maintenance shops, work areas, and tools in a clean, organized, and secure condition.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in process equipment maintenance, rotating equipment repair, and pipefitting within an industrial, chemical, plant, or refinery environment.
- Technical Skills: Proven ability to interpret technical documentation including blueprints, isometrics, schematics, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Certifications: Valid National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certificate or equivalent training is highly preferred. Annual Confined Space Training will be required.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Basic familiarity with OSHA requirements pertaining to chemical production processes, with the ability to learn and adhere to rigid corporate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Computer Literacy: Practical skills in MS Word and MS Excel; ability to use digital timekeeping systems to log hours and request time off, and comfortably pass online computer-based training modules.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Environment: Work is primarily performed in an active maintenance shop or covered operating plant units. Temporary exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions, wet/humid environments, loud noises, vibration, and heights or precarious locations is to be expected.
- Hazards: Regular presence of toxic, caustic, or hazardous chemicals requires strict adherence to safety protocols and the daily use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- PPE Required: Fire-Resistant Clothing (FRC), safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and specialized gloves are required daily. Grinding face shields, earplugs, respirators, and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) must be utilized as mandated for specific tasks or emergencies.
- Physical Capabilities: Must be physically capable of standing or walking for long periods, climbing stairs and ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and assist with tight, confined-space entries.
