One of the largest independent manufacturers of specialty
chemicals and lubricant additives on the Gulf Coast are looking for a
Chemical Lab Technician willing to work a rotating shift schedule that may include overtime and cover between facilities.
The
Lab Technician will conduct routine laboratory tests according to procedures to support plant operations, analyze raw materials, intermediates, and final products to ensure product quality requirements are met. Additionally, the lab technician documents all data accurately and efficiently and ensures all safety procedures are
followed.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Performs numerous chemical and physical tests methods.
- Assist with equipment calibration, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Cleans glassware and test equipment.
- Records data on appropriate data sheets and reports data into internal or external systems.
- Responsible for maintaining quality records, control charts, and lab supply inventories.
- Responsible for complying with safety, quality and housekeeping requirements.
- Participates in cross training as needed.
- Prepares and tests samples to determine the quality of the material against customer specifications
- Daily testing of chemical samples for physical properties including viscosity, density and color
- Daily testing of materials using wet titration such as acid number and base number
- Daily testing of materials using instrumentation such as gas chromatography, FTIR, inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and automatic titrators
- Conducts non-routine testing of samples using approved procedures
- Performs routine instrument maintenance procedures
- Documents and communicates results of sample analysis in various computer systems
- Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of
personnel and integrity of the sample
- Packages chemical samples for shipping
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma, or equivalent, preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a Chemical Laboratory setting in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry
- Petrochemical lab experience required
- Must demonstrate ability to multi-task in high production testing areas.
- Must possess good math and observation skills.
- Must demonstrate proficiency using applications and established chemistry lab processes.
- Must demonstrate excellent team communication, coordination and cooperation.
- Must demonstrate ability to follow standard and non-standard procedures.
- Must demonstrate ability to utilize non-complex and complex instrumentation.
- Prefer proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be able to work overtime as business needs dictate.
- Ability to regularly lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ok with exposure to various chemicals being tested

- Schedule (Rotational) - 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM, or 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM
