Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled IE Technician to provide hands-on support for plant instrument and electrical systems. This role focuses on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and instrumentation equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant plant operations.
Systems supported include:
- Field instrumentation
- MCCs and EPC equipment
- Electrical process equipment
- Heat tracing systems
- Grounding systems
- Plant/building power distribution and lighting
The IE Technician will work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues, support plant reliability initiatives, and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards (ISO-9001, ISO-45001, OSHA, EPA, TCEQ).
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrumentation systems
- Support systems operating from 120V through 5kV
- Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to resolve electrical/instrumentation issues
- Assist with commissioning, startup, and testing of equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and reliability-focused tasks on plant systems
- Follow plant standards, industry best practices, and PSM Mechanical Integrity requirements
- Assist with scope development, job planning, and technical documentation for maintenance activities
- Coordinate with contractors and internal teams for project execution
- Participate in safety inspections, audits, hazard reviews, and corrective actions
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience (10+ years) in electrical or instrumentation systems
- Minimum 5 years industrial experience, preferably in chemical or petrochemical environments
- Experience with electrical power distribution, motor controls, relays, breakers, and VFDs
- Hands-on experience with powered field equipment (motors, pumps, blowers, heaters, etc.)
- Experience with electric heat tracing systems
- Basic knowledge of field instrumentation required; experience with analyzers (CEMS, O2, ammonia, TDL) is a plus
- Familiarity with ISA, NEMA, and NEC standards
- Experience supporting reliability and/or mechanical integrity programs preferred
Key Projects / Early Responsibilities
- Motor protection and breaker relay upgrades (480V & 5kV)
- Transformer upgrades/replacements including tiebreaker improvements
- Power factor correction capacitor bank upgrades
- Plant grounding and bonding system improvements
- CEMS upgrade support
- Electric heat tracing system upgrades
- Various field instrumentation maintenance and reliability improvements
