Our Deer Park office is working alongside a Motor Repair shop in Houston to add a Electric Motor Winder/Motor Rewind Technician. 

The Electric Motor Winder is responsible for the repair, rewinding, rebuilding, and testing of AC and DC electric motors, generators, and related rotating electrical equipment. The technician removes damaged windings, records winding data, rewinds stators and rotors, performs insulation system repairs, and conducts electrical testing in accordance with industry standards and customer specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Winding and Rewinding

  • Remove and document existing motor windings.
  • Collect winding data including: Coil pitch, Turns per coil, Wire size, Connection diagrams, and Number of circuits.
  • Burn out stators using controlled burnout procedures.
  • Prepare cores for rewinding and repair insulation damage.
  • Manufacture and install replacement coils.
  • Wind random-wound and form-coil stators.
  • Install slot insulation, phase insulation, wedges, and blocking materials.
  • Connect and lace coils according to winding diagrams.
  • Perform brazing, soldering, and electrical connections.

VPI and Insulation Processing

  • Prepare windings for varnish treatment.
  • Operate dip-and-bake or VPI systems.
  • Monitor curing cycles and insulation processing.
  • Inspect completed insulation systems for quality and compliance.

Testing and Inspection

  • Perform and document Megger tests, Surge comparison tests, Resistance tests, Hi-Pot tests, and Polarization Index testing.
  • Verify winding integrity before and after processing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical failures and determine root causes.

Documentation

  • Maintain winding records and repair documentation.
  • Read and interpret winding diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Complete quality control documentation.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of motor winding, rewinding, or related electrical repair experience.
  • Ability to read winding diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC motor construction.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment safely.

Preferred

  • Experience with motors from 1 HP to 10,000+ HP.
  • Familiarity with EASA repair standards.
  • Experience with form-coil windings, medium-voltage motors, generators, and explosion-proof motors.
  • Technical school or electrical apprenticeship training.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Work with hand tools and winding equipment.
  • Distinguish wire colors accurately.
  • Work around ovens, varnish systems, and industrial machinery.
