Drafter / Designer (Mechanical) Location: Stafford, TX Job Type: Full-time Schedule: Monday ā Friday, 8:00 AM ā 5:00 PM Pay: $75,000 per year About the Role Openwork is hiring on behalf of our client they are an industrial manufacturer expanding our engineering team due to continuous company growth! They are seeking an immediate, detail-oriented Drafter / Designer to join our fast-paced manufacturing environment. In this role, you will work alongside our Design Engineering team to translate design layouts and concepts into clear, accurate, production-ready drawings and parts lists with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities
Translate engineering concepts, sketches, and markups into complete, production-ready mechanical documentation.
Develop detail, fabrication, machining, assembly, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
Create design variations of existing components (such as body/flow configurations and revised end connections).
Apply appropriate dimensioning and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) based on standard drafting practices and manufacturing requirements.
Prepare accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and drawing packages to support purchasing, manufacturing, and assembly operations.
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and clarity prior to release.
Maintain strict document control, revision tracking, and drafting standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to resolve drawing-related inquiries.
Qualifications
Software: Proven proficiency with Autodesk software and standard drafting techniques.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of dimensional tolerancing and GD&T.
Experience: Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and develop complex mechanical drawings.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical assembly.
Independence: Ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
High attention to detail and a commitment to producing reliable documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior drafting experience in valves, pressure vessels, or heavy industrial equipment design.
Experience with Engineering Change Notices/Orders (ECN/ECO) and revision control procedures.
Associate degree, technical diploma, or formal certification in Drafting/Design Technology (or equivalent experience).
