Now Hiring: Community Health Worker
Location: Houston, TX
Pay: $17.00 per hour | Paid Weekly
Schedule: Full-Time | Short-Term Assignment (Approximately 2 Months)
Openwork’s Houston office is partnering with a respected public health organization to hire a Community Health Worker dedicated to advancing critical outreach initiatives. This hands-on role supports Lead Poisoning Prevention and Environmental Public Health programs while connecting residents to essential public health services.

Under the direct supervision of the Outreach Cohort Supervisor, the Community Health Worker supports outreach initiatives and serves as a key liaison between public health programs and community members. This role focuses specifically on Lead Poisoning Prevention and Environmental Public Health efforts while helping promote and connect residents to a broad range of available services.
The position primarily involves field-based outreach throughout the greater Houston area, along with in-office responsibilities that support overall outreach team objectives.
Conduct diverse outreach and education activities, including canvassing local businesses and organizations, attending community events, making outreach phone calls, and delivering presentations
Serve as a subject-matter resource to meet outreach goals and recommend improvements to outreach strategies
Support the development and updating of program trainings for the outreach team
Maintain current knowledge of available programs and services to effectively educate and connect community members
Track, collect, and submit outreach service data on a daily and weekly basis
Initiate referrals while ensuring confidentiality and professionalism
Build and sustain strong relationships with community stakeholders and partner organizations
Create and deliver educational workshops and presentations tailored to diverse audiences
Assist with special projects and emergency response initiatives as assigned
High school diploma required
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Comfortable presenting to diverse groups and engaging with the public
Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a team
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and data-tracking skills
Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and community service
Genuine passion for public health and outreach
This role operates in both community and professional office environments. The position routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing systems, and related technology tools.
While much of this role is stationary in nature, it includes regular field work. The position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and to stand, bend, and move for extended periods during outreach activities and events.
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Some evenings required
Community events every other weekend required
