Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Cable Technician for a technology infrastructure contractor located in South Austin. In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, assembling, and testing structured cabling systems — including copper, fiber optic, and low-voltage cabling — used in voice, data, security, and AV applications. Training will be provided!

As a Cable Technician, you’ll be responsible for:

• Installing and terminating structured cabling

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications

• Performing terminations, splicing, and labeling to meet industry standards

• Testing and troubleshooting installed cabling systems with appropriate equipment

• Using hand tools and specialized devices such as fiber testers, OTDRs, and certification tools

• Building and assembling cable harnesses or wiring assemblies when required

• Ensuring all work complies with project requirements, safety standards, and codes

• Documenting installations, test results, and reporting any issues or corrective actions

• Working closely with project managers, engineers, and quality teams to complete installations on schedule

What you’ll need:

• 2–3 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or cable assembly (prefered) 

• Experience with copper and fiber optic cabling installation and termination

• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, layouts, and project plans (preferred)

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Comfortable working in commercial construction environments (indoor/outdoor)

• High school diploma or equivalent
