Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Employment Type: Regular Full-Time
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Additional Hours: Some weekends and overtime hours may be required

Openwork is currently seeking a Bilingual Ballot by Mail Clerk to assist with election-related operations in the Houston area. This role is ideal for individuals who are fluent in Chinese and English and bring professional translation experience. The position plays an important role in ensuring election materials are accurately translated and accessible to Chinese-speaking voters.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, organization, and confidentiality are essential.

Role Overview

The Ballot by Mail Clerk will support the Elections Department by translating election documents, assisting with ballot preparation processes, and providing language assistance to Chinese-speaking constituents. This role works closely with internal teams to ensure that election materials meet quality and accuracy standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Translate election-related materials from English to Chinese and Chinese to English, including ballots, forms, notices, brochures, flyers, posters, press releases, and social media content

  • Assist with the ballot proofing process and Logic & Accuracy Testing to confirm translation accuracy and consistency

  • Collaborate with internal coding teams to prepare translated ballot materials

  • Support the preparation and recording of audio ballots and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) recordings as needed

  • Provide language assistance to Chinese-speaking constituents by answering calls and responding to election-related inquiries

  • Review documents carefully to ensure accuracy and compliance with election guidelines

  • Assist with additional administrative or project-related duties as assigned by the Director of Compliance and Elections Department

Qualifications

  • Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English

  • Ability to type using Traditional Chinese characters

  • Minimum three years of professional translation experience

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with written materials

  • Ability to learn and understand election terminology and procedures

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment

  • U.S. Citizenship required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime when necessary

  • Willingness to travel to other locations as needed to assist with election projects

  • Ability to perform well under tight deadlines and time-sensitive situations

Physical Requirements

  • Extended periods of sitting while working on a computer

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 20 pounds when necessary
