Job Title: Assistant Line Intervention Technician

Pay: $25–$30/hr

Job Summary
Openwork is hiring on behalf of our client for an Assistant Line Intervention Technician (OTF) to support field operations involving pipeline intervention work in industrial and municipal environments. This is an entry-to-junior level field role designed for candidates with related mechanical, construction, utility, or industrial experience who are looking to build a career in hot tapping and line stopping operations.
The Assistant Technician will work alongside experienced Lead Technicians to support safe execution of pressurized pipeline interventions, equipment setup, and job site preparation. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, willingness to learn, and a commitment to safety in high-risk field environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in hot tapping and line stopping operations on pressurized pipeline systems
  • Support setup, operation, and breakdown of field equipment and tools
  • Help install fittings, valves, and temporary pipeline isolation equipment under supervision
  • Follow instructions to read and interpret basic job plans, drawings, and work scopes
  • Assist in conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and maintaining job site safety compliance
  • Support monitoring of pipeline pressures and safe work practices during operations
  • Perform cleaning, inspection, and basic maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Assist with job documentation, field reports, and safety paperwork
  • Work closely with Lead Technicians and supervisors to complete assigned tasks efficiently
  • Maintain organized, safe, and compliant job sites at all times

Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of experience in construction, mechanical work, utilities, oil & gas, plumbing, or related field preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn pipeline intervention procedures
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic understanding of hand tools and industrial work environments
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screening
  • Strong communication skills (English required)
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required (training can be provided)
  • Prior experience in labor, construction, fabrication, or maintenance a plus

Work Conditions
  • Field-based position with travel between job sites
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to industrial environments, including active pipeline systems
  • Required use of PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times
  • May require occasional overtime or travel depending on project needs

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing
  • Ability to work on ladders, elevated surfaces, and in confined spaces
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in industrial environments
  • Ability to maintain focus and follow safety procedures in high-risk situations
