About the Role

The Academic Coaching Program provides youth and young adults ages 14–25 with personalized academic support and essential life skills. By strengthening study habits, time management, and organization, coaches help participants lay the foundation for long-term success.

We serve a wide geographic area—including Harris County and 12 surrounding counties—and are expanding our reach to meet growing demand.

What You’ll Do

As an Academic Coach, you’ll work directly with students in foster care, providing academic instruction and mentorship tailored to their unique needs. Coaching sessions take place in person at Residential Treatment Centers and community-based locations, or virtually, depending on the student.

Our program is expanding to include two new areas: 77061 and 77053. Coaches may be placed at these sites or at existing locations, including 77088, 77026, 77051, 77091, 77535, and 77373.

Schedule Note: One program site begins at 4:00 PM; all others start at 5:00 PM. Coaches must be available after 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide academic coaching and tutoring in core subjects such as math, science, and language arts

• Support students with homework, assignments, test prep, and executive functioning skills

• Lead one-on-one and small-group sessions in person and/or online

• Travel to assigned tutoring locations across Houston, Harris County, and surrounding areas

• Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic progress, and coaching outcomes

• Complete required forms and assessments in a timely manner

• Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and special program events

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with college coursework considered

• Experience tutoring or mentoring youth ages 14+

• Strong academic proficiency, especially in math, science, and English

• Dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current auto liability insurance

• Access to a personal computer and proficiency with Microsoft Teams

• Required availability after 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday

• Patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds

• Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and student needs

• Willingness to travel across a large service area

Compensation

• $20.00 per hour

• Comprehensive training provided

• Proprietary agreement required during onboarding
