Slitter Operator

Position Summary

The Slitter Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining slitting equipment used to cut corrugated sheets and packaging materials to customer specifications. This role ensures product quality, production efficiency, and adherence to safety standards while meeting production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate slitter machinery according to production orders and specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Verify dimensions, cuts, and product quality throughout the production process.
  • Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and specifications.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Remove waste materials and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Accurately record production data, downtime, and quality information.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other production team members.
  • Assist with changeovers and machine setup to minimize downtime.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or quality issues immediately.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
  • Experience operating slitting, converting, or corrugated production equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read measuring devices and production specifications accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of manufacturing safety practices.
  • Ability to meet production goals while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment safely (forklift certification preferred).

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
  • May require rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime based on production demands.
