Structural Fitter – First Shift

Location: Northeast Houston
Pay: $17.00–$21.00 per hour

Openwork is partnering with a well-established manufacturer known for producing high-quality steel and aluminum bar grating products. We’re seeking Structural Fitters who take pride in precision, craftsmanship, and building products that meet exacting standards. Position Overview

Structural Fitters play a key role in the fabrication process by laying out, fitting, and assembling metal components according to detailed specifications. This position requires accuracy, strong blueprint-reading skills, and a commitment to safety and quality at every stage of production.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM

• Saturday: 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM (as needed)

• Overtime available based on production demand

What You’ll Do

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols

• Measure, mark, cut, grind, and prepare steel components for fabrication

• Fit and tack weld materials to specification

• Assemble grating panels, stair treads, frames, and related products

• Safely operate forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes to move materials

• Inspect finished assemblies to ensure dimensional accuracy within 1/8-inch tolerance

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

• Work closely with welders, supervisors, and fellow fitters to meet production goals

What We’re Looking For

• One to three years of experience as a structural fitter, fabricator, or similar role

• Ability to confidently read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols

• Proficiency with hand tools, grinders, cutting torches, and measuring devices

• Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods

• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
